Matisyn is a Public Allies Fellow coming from Greenville, South Carolina. After completing her BA in Music and Philosophy at Furman University, Matisyn has chosen to pursue a life in music education starting at the Eagle Rock School. Her passion for music formally began in her hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada, and followed her into the South in 2011. After graduation from the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities she continued her musical journey at Furman studying viola with Dr. Anna Joiner. She has attended Green Mountain Summer Chamber Music Festival in Vermont where she was guided by Dr. Daniel Sweaney. By 2018, she was selected to participate in the Furman Music Study-Away program at the Academia Dell’Arte in Arezzo, Italy where she spent the 2019 fall semester studying with Carmelo Giallombardo.   Beyond her studies in music, she has dedicated her leadership as an advocate towards engaging in communities on and off the college campus. Matisyn has worked closely with the non-profit, Pridelink, as an advocate for the LGBT+ community in the Upstate of South Carolina. She also served as president of the Furman Pride Alliance while working closely with Furman’s Center for Inclusive Communities as a Dins Dialogue Facilitator. Furthermore, she spent the summer of 2019 as a summer programs intern with organization Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders on Capitol Hill of Washington D.C. She is looking forward to finding new ways of empowering youth at Eagle Rock School.
