Júlia Miyahara

2022/2023 Eagle Rock Fellow

Júlia (she/hers) is a Japanese-Brazilian-Michigander joining the Eagle Rock community as a Residential Life Fellow. She received a B.A. in International Affairs at Eastern Michigan University (a school that also has an eagle as its mascot). From her studies of Latin American politics and human rights, Júlia became convinced of the power of community building to challenge and disrupt systems of oppression, especially those stemming from global imperialism. In the wake of the 2016 US presidential election, she helped organize efforts to make her college campus more inclusive to undocumented students. Additionally, she was involved with the VISION Volunteer Center, where she helped plan “alternative break” service learning trips. As a site leader and coordinator, she led educational sessions and guided reflective discussions, helping students connect their volunteer work to larger systemic issues. After graduating, Júlia worked at International Samaritan, conducting literature research to develop the organization’s Theory of Change model. Júlia is beyond excited to learn from Eagle Rock students, staff, and fellow fellows.

More About Júlia

I’m really moved by moments of vulnerability that lead to growth.

Students inspire me when they lead, in big and small ways.
