Dear Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all the individuals and businesses who helped make the 2009 Estes Valley Recreation and Park District (EVRPD) youth soccer program a success.
Our Little Kickers program introduces three- and four-year olds to the game of soccer using a parental involvement model. This year twenty-two Little Kickers participated in the six week program sponsored by the Optimist Club of Estes Park. Thank you to Annette Marshall and her assistants – Elizabeth Fonken, Matthew Fonken, Jessica Marshall and Caroline Miller — for guiding this program this year.
The youth soccer program had nearly 160 youth playing in four age-groups – knee-hi (k/1st grade), juniors (2nd/3rd grade), seniors (4th/5th grade) and masters (6th,7th, and 8th grades).
The knee-hi division had teams sponsored by First National Bank of Estes Park, The Stanley Hotel, Glacier Creek Construction, and the Estes Egg and I. Coaches in this division included Lisa Peters, Dan Fitzpatrick, Chuck Santagati, Mike Egan, Tyler Lemirande, Brian Simpson, and Shawn Zelle.
The junior division teams were sponsored by Village Pizza, 1st Colorado Realty – Mike Richardson, Med-X of Estes, and Park Flooring. These teams were coached by Ty and Michelle Freel, Renee Tomasula, Mike Richardson, Matt Land, and Dennis Rastatter.
The seniors were sponsored by Bank of Colorado, Waste Management, Cherry Creek Mortgage, and Estes Park Lumber. Senior teams were coached by Tim Buck, Jeff Hemstreet, Renee Tomasula, Rich Flanery, Tim Johnson, Tom Thomas, Kim Muench, and Cathy Lewis.
Both master level teams were sponsored by Estes Park Vacationland and were coached by Jason Cunningham and Tamara Jarolimek.
Jason Cunningham, Elizabeth Fonken, Matthew Fonken, Jessica Marshall, Caroline Miller and Hanna Steadman served as referees in our Saturday morning games.
A very special thank you goes out to the crew from Eagle Rock School — Eduardo Velasco, Devin McKiernan, JoJo Alonzo, Lauren Kwok, Omar Knight, Christian Torres and Hernando Martinez — who came out to help coach and who also chipped in to help out wherever needed.
And to all the parents, grandparents, family and friends who came out to cheer and encourage the players -thank you for making this a great soccer season for the youth of Estes Park.
Sincerely,
D. Barry Lawson
Recreation Supervisor
